The Knowledge Loom's Early Literacy, A National Perspective and Early Literacy in the Northeast spotlights have been replaced with a new spotlight, Elementary Literacy. This new spotlight identifies literacy practices of successful teachers, with a special emphasis on meeting the needs of English language learners. Its practices are based on recent literacy research, including the 2000 report of the National Reading Panel and the 2004 report from the Northeast and Islands Regional Technology in Education Consortium (NEIRTEC) entitled "Technology and Teaching Children to Read."
